Video Review & Installation
Ryan: These Teraflex Sport Front Lower and Rear Upper Fixed FlexArms for 21/2 to iii Inches of Elevator are for those of you that have a 2007 to 2018 JK, with that amount of elevator, that are looking for a adept fixed gear up of control arms that are going to assistance set your pulley angle and your pinion angle and just be a really stiff set of control arms that are gonna hold upward really, really well and be less expensive than some of the adjustable options out there or some of those adjustable options that besides take Heim joints on them. These are going to exist a pretty like shooting fish in a barrel one out of three wrenches to install on your Jeep. A footling bit of disassembly to practise, only nosotros are gonna show you how to get that done in merely a 2d. Then when you're looking for command artillery, you're going to be looking for a variety of different things. Usually, you're gonna bandy out your control arms because you need or desire ones that are longer. And that's going to assistance to fix a variety of things. As you lift your Jeep, both axles are going to be moving toward the eye line of the vehicle. And so in order to push the axles back out and eye them under the cycle wells, you'll want some longer control arms. Also, the length of your control artillery is going to affect your pinion angle which is the bending of both of your driveshafts and how they chronicle to both your transfer case and likewise the differential in the front and in the back of the Jeep and also your pulley bending upfront which is the angle of the steering duke. And what that actually feels like is the steering bike re-centering itself. So if you're making a tiresome turn in a parking lot, yous allow off the steering wheel, as you motion forward, the steering bicycle re-centers. That's considering of your pulley angle. And if you lot don't have enough caster angle, the steering wheel won't wanna self-heart and and then it tin can actually feel similar you lot have a little chip of a wobble or a wander on the highway considering you don't have enough caster angle. So in the forepart, caster and pinion angle are directly related. In the back, are you worried about pinion? But no matter what your reasoning is, a new fix of control arms is going to help solve those problems. Now an adjustable control arm, or a set of adaptable control arms, is going to allow you to completely punch in the pinion and the caster angle, forepart and rear, of your vehicle. What this is going to be is a set of fixed control artillery designed specifically for those of you lot that accept two i/2 to iii inches of lift, so y'all don't accept to worry virtually dialing them in. Y'all don't accept to worry about making that adjustment. You don't wanna have to brand certain GM basics stay tight. And then you don't have to worry about all of that stuff. You only bolt these in and your pinion and your caster bending are going to exist set for you. This is besides going to exist a set of four, the four nearly important ones for setting pinion and caster at that two 1/2 to 3 inches of elevator. Of course, the length is already preset for you.And like I mentioned earlier, these are going to be rubber bushings in both ends of all iv of these command arms. So y'all're gonna get a squeamish comfortable ride, a nice quiet ride out of these command arms. However, yous're not going to get quite every bit much additional flex as you would become with a Heim articulation. So as this control arm moves, it's going to wanna move in one plane up and down, but it'due south non gonna wanna twist and it's non gonna wanna move in the opposite aeroplane where a Heim articulation will do a little bit of that boosted motility. Then if you lot're doing a lot of off-roading, you want maximum articulation, y'all'll probably wanna look at a Heim joint. The downside, if yous wanna call it that, are that they're much more expensive. They require a little bit more maintenance. You have to keep them greased. And, eventually, they are going to wear out probably a little bit quicker than a rubber control arm bushing like this one volition. And then it really depends on what you're looking for on your Jeep. What this set is really gonna be practiced for is ii 1/two to 3 inches of lift. You lot do some off-roading, maybe but and yous're non worried about maximum flex and you lot merely want something that's going to be solid and fix your pinion and your caster angle without needing to worry about any sort of adjustability. This kit right hither is going to exist an incredibly high-quality option from Teraflex. They are going to come in at correct around that $400 mark which I think is actually off-white for a set of four control arms like this. It'due south going to be a corking selection for you if you are looking for an easy solution to setting your caster and your pinion angle. So this is going to be a one out of three wrenches for the installation. Let's prove you how to do it.Homo: Tools required for this installation: a pry bar, a breaker bar, a 21-millimeter wrench, a 1/2-inch bulldoze with an extension, a 21-millimeter socket, ball pin hammer, a ratchet strap is extremely helpful to get that axle back into place, a 1/two-inch gun to become those bolts and nuts out, then I use this air ratchet to help go those bolts back in.All correct. And so as y'all tin can see, we take our Jeep upwardly on the lift, all of our wheels and tires off and I really have the axles supported with a couple of pull jacks. At present, I have a breaker bar with a 21-millimeter socket. I'1000 going to attack my upper control arm bolts first just to intermission these complimentary considering I know that they've been in for a while. All right. And then now that that one'due south prissy and loose, requite another picayune turn on it. Nosotros can assault our lower bolt for our upper control arm. All right, so this is the lower bolt for your upper control arm. Again, I'one thousand going to use my breaker bar just to become things moving. Make certain information technology's on there nice and foursquare. All right, and yous tin see that tab for the nut starting to motility. In one case it moves to the forward-nigh position, that'southward when the bolt will actually start loosening upwardly. And once y'all tin go it loose plenty that y'all tin can get a socket in in that location for the ratchet, nosotros'll switch off our tooling. All right, and so allow's bring our socket into identify now and go this out the residuum of the way. So I wanted to take a second and simply show you the tab nut right here. And then this actually is inside of your frame rail and that is what the bolt attaches to. So this is not going to come out of the frame rail. It volition, perchance, autumn out a niggling bit, just when we bring our new upper command arm in place, we'll have to use 2 hands, position that and also run our commodities through and try to capture that nut on the back. And so let's become ahead and become this bolt out the rest of the fashion. So there'southward that nut. Allow'due south become our control arm out of hither. Let's get ahead and get this new rear upper control arm in place. We're gonna start in the front. Just get that captured nut set. I'm gonna put my bolt through and start to find the tab or this rests. Then I'm gonna start threading my bolt just like that. So let'due south snug that up. So we're simply gonna snug that up. Nosotros'll get our terminal torque when the vehicle is downwardly on the ground at ride height. All right, guys. Now, moving on to the lower part of the upper control arm, we're gonna position this into place. And it'south of import to annotation, I do have a jack stand on the pinion correct now and that's to help me find and locate that hole. Then with the jack in place and downward a little scrap, correct there... And nosotros are reusing the factory hardware with that captured nut on the backside to start that, the socket wrench. Once again, we're merely gonna snug these up and so, once the vehicle is downwards on the ground and at ride top, nosotros can requite them the final torque. And Teraflex lists all the torque readings on their instructions. That's very squeamish. So let'south tighten up this forepart i as well. All right. So all the steps you just saw, we're gonna repeat on the driver's side to become that upper command arm in.All correct. Moving on to the front end, y'all can see that we have our wheels and tires off. We besides take the beam supported with a couple of pull jacks. At present, in my mitt, I have my one/2-inch air gun with a 21-millimeter socket and my 21-millimeter wrench. It's the same type of hardware upfront except for we don't take captured nuts. And so I'm gonna go ahead and put my 21-millimeter wrench over here and my 21-millimeter socket on my 1/2-inch bear on here and but loosen it upwards. All right, moving on to the front end of our lower control arm, it's the same deal, 21-millimeter commodities, and nut. We're gonna loosen this up and not remove it just yet. All right, now nosotros're gonna be removing the bolts holding in our upper control arms upfront here. I already did loosen up the ones on our driver's side. And so I do have the nut on here just a few threads, simply to protect the end of that bolt. Let's go alee and merely give this a trivial tap. All correct, we're gonna accept the nut off the rest of the fashion now.All correct, so permit'due south separate the bottom of our command arm here from the axle. Just use a pry bar here. All right, now nosotros're gonna remove the nut and commodities for our control arm dorsum here and just wiggle it out of place. All right, with our old lower control arm out of the manner, we can bring in our new Teraflex unit of measurement. Slide that upward into the place. We are reusing our manufacturing plant hardware. We're just gonna hand-tighten this for now, swing information technology into place and attach it to the lesser. So ane of the issues you may run into while connecting the lower control artillery to your axle is y'all can find our spring right here is actually kinked backwards and pushing the beam towards the rear. So what nosotros have here is a squeamish ratchet strap, we're going to wrap around our beam tube and our radiator cadre support correct here on the lesser, these into each other. And when I get some tension on it, you tin actually picket this spring and the axle showtime rotating forwards. And then right around at that place we should probably be able to get our control arm back into identify. So bringing the lower control arm into place, you can come across we nevertheless have a fiddling flake to go, but I'm simply gonna give this a couple more cranks and you lot tin can watch that. That's about good correct at that place. Become our bolt started. It'south a little off on that side, so I'm gonna give information technology 1 more. All correct, I can simply start that with the air ratchet. All right, now we're gonna repeat that on the other side. All right, so with our control arms in place, we have our 21-millimeter socket and wrench, we're gonna tighten these up, get the wheels back on, get it on the ground and torque them down. That's gonna wrap up my install of the Teraflex Sport Forepart Lower and Rear Upper Fixed FlexArms, fitting your Jeep JK with a two 1/two to 3-Inch Lift.
